Rated small portable jobs 1 gallon a day

We generally focus on Very Fine Finishing at WoodSprayGuns.com and do not recommend turbines. We consider turbines to be used only if portability above finish quality is the most important factor to you.

Benefits - Small Lightweight Compressor allows for easy portability.

Drawbacks - Finer Finishes requires a 4-5 stage turbine compressor. This means you are purchasing an expensive $1,000 compressor that cannot be used for anything else but a turbine HVLP Spray Gun.

Because several of our spray guns can operate on a 4 gallon 3-5 CFM compressor that costs only $100-$300 and because that compressor can then be used for other air tools, a compressor system is a better choice.

Drawbacks - A lot of the money you are purchasing in a $1200 turbine complete system is going to the motor. The guns utilize less air and need to be very finely crafted to get a better spray pattern. This means that a good turbine is that can match our spray guns generally cost $1400. With a compressor gun you can instead invest all your money into top of the line pressure feed spray gun and get the best finishes money can buy.

Because several of our spray guns can operate on a 4 gallon 3-5 CFM compressor that costs only $100-$300 and because that compressor can then be used for other air tools, a compressor system is a better choice.

Drawbacks - Turbine units are whinny and many dislike the sound even though it is generally quieter than a compressor. They often sound like a loud vacuum cleaner and if you have one of them running all the time you know how annoying it can get. For a compressor gun, if you need to be portable, please look at quiet air compressors like the Quiet Zone Air Compressors.

For Example - Lighter Weight Compressor - Under $200.00 - 41 lbs. only 55DB noise
(background noise of average house 50db - normal conversation 60DB)

Drawbacks - Turbines are under powered and HVLP (a double whammy), they generally do not handle thicker paints well.

Drawbacks - Turbines heat the materials through the motor. People use this as a selling point. However, it is because the motor is overworked and gets hot, like any engine that is running full bore all the time. The fluid is heated because of the motor is running continuously, however, heating is uneven from the beginning of your job to finishing.

Drawbacks - Most Turbines have a 1 quart cup on them thereby canceling the benefit of having a bottom feed spray gun and hooking it up to different size cups.

Drawbacks - Most Turbines tout that they have built in filtering. However, spray guns operate successfully with $4.00 ball filters and also have $18.00 water filters for very humid areas.
